Upgrading a conventional rotator controller

Introduction

Only after almost 25 years of service, my antenna rotator system died under bad circumstances. Heavy winds and much larger load of 8 long yagi’s for 432MHz were too much for the mechanical construction. A new rotator was selected but it did not fulfil the today's requirements. State of art upgrading was badly needed.

Spending a budget of abt. Euro 70,= a commercial antenna rotator system of Euro 900,= becomes a valuable instrument in today’s radio amateur shack. At least manufacturers should be able to include this type of upgrades for much less in their current controllers.

This article shows how easy a commercial rotator can be modified for today's amateur requirements.
